Présentation

German politics has a long tradition of dirigistic influence on the energy market. The discussion on the nuclear phase out is still under way. The subvention for the coal production is still going on but the renewable energies are supported at the same time by the renewable energy law (EEG Erneuerbare Energien Gesetz). In the meantime, the European Community is struggling for a uniform energy politics. The common European consence is the financial support of renewable energy sources.

Geothermal energy sources are for human time scales unexhaustable and is considered to be renewable. The Upper Rhine Valley is considered to have one of the best geothermal potential. This potential is practically unexploited due to the high investment costs. Only few installations, mainly for the direct usage of geothermal sources for heating purposes, are realized. Even less pilote installations for the electricity production are under construction. The actual status of activities and the development tendencies to use geothermal energy sources are presented in this conference.

This conference is the final public activity of the Interreg IIIa project RHENERGIE with the partners Hochschule Offenburg, Institut National des Sciences Appliquées Strasbourg and the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz. RHENERGIE´s goal, the development of an European energy study program on the master level is achieved. It is expected to get an European support for the study program « European Energy Economics » EEE. This conference should create sensitiveness and awareness for the necessary local and global changes within the energy supply and the corresponding impacts for the energy consumers. It is also intended to advertise the actual and future energy study programs of the Rhenergie partners.
